IDEAL AP PROFILE: HIGH-LOW-HIGH (High Level Mental Toughness)
Your Athlete’s Profile (AP) classification is High-Low-High. It is one of two IDEAL Mental Toughness profiles and is associated with optimal focus (High SA) and motor/technical control even under maximum competitive stress and critical moments of competition. Athlete’s with this AP rarely “choke” under pressure or lose due to psychological factors (Low SR & High SC). They are highly confident that they will not fail, are very tolerant of adversity and pain during competition and in life in general. They are success oriented and have strong self-belief. One downside to this AP is that such an athlete can be overconfident and fail to recognize physical and/or technical issues because they believe that they do not have weaknesses when it comes to, for example, hitting or pitching in baseball, driving in golf, or shooting in basketball. They can have a know-it-all attitude and be difficult to coach. However, if they have a top-notch technical and physical game their developed Mental Toughness will not let their level of skill down even under greatest pressure during a game.
IDEAL AP PROFILE: LOW-LOW-HIGH (High Level Mental Toughness)
Your Athlete’s Profile (AP) classification is Low-Low-High. One downside to this AP is that such an athlete can be overconfident (High RC) and fail to recognize physical and/or technical issues because they believe that they do not have weaknesses when it comes to, for example, hitting or pitching in baseball, driving in golf, or shooting in basketball. They can have a know-it-all attitude and be difficult to coach. However, if they have a top-notch technical and physical game their developed Mental Toughness will not let their level of skill down even under greatest pressure during a game.
PERFORMANCE DETRIMENTAL AP: HIGH-HIGH-LOW (Low Mental Toughness)
Your Athlete’s Profile (AP) classification is High-High-Low. It is the least peak performance enhancing AP (reduced Mental Toughness). You likely struggle dealing with competitive stress and have difficulty performing up to your peak technical potential as pressure rises during critical moments of competition. Your high level of SA (the Focus-trait) is easily diverted away from concentrating on “just doing it” when competing. Instead you tend to hyper-focus on negative intrusive thoughts that are generated by your high level of SR especially when competitive pressure is experienced of perceived. You do not benefit from the protective brain mechanisms associated with high level of SC (your SC level is low) making it even more difficult to perform in a focused and controlled manner. Although your AP is not IDEAL, you can mitigate the impact of a low AP-Mental Toughness rating by training hard and developing a strong physical and technical game that reduces the probability of encountering critical moments during competition. There is also a DIRECT MENTAL TRAINING METHOD that is used to set off the BRAIN-MIND-BODY dynamics that are associated with Mental Toughness when under pressure that is automatically set-off in athletes with the IDEAL AP-Mental Toughness Pressure Response. Doing so will allow you to bypass and suppress performance suppressing brain mechanisms that are associated with your profile
